Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) is a Home Affairs approval that allows Australian businesses to sponsor skilled overseas workers under employer-sponsored visa programs, including the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand (SID) visa and Subclass 494 visa
SBS approval is generally valid for 5 years. During this period, an approved sponsor can nominate multiple overseas workers, provided each nomination meets occupation, salary, and compliance requirements.
To qualify, businesses must demonstrate they are lawfully operating, financially viable, and able to meet workplace, salary, and sponsorship obligations. Sponsors are responsible for maintaining records, ensuring fair employment conditions, and complying with ongoing monitoring requirements.
SBS is required before lodging any employer nomination and is often the first step for businesses planning to recruit overseas or sponsor existing staff.
Eligibility
To qualify for SBS, a business must:
- Be lawfully operating in Australia
- Provide evidence of active trading and financial viability
- Demonstrate a genuine need to sponsor overseas workers
- Meet workplace and employment compliance obligations
- Agree to sponsor responsibilities, including record-keeping and fair employment
- Be able to pay sponsored workers at least $79, 423 per year subject to market salary rates
