The successful candidate will need to undertake and possess:
- Prepare and clean surfaces by removing rust, old paint, scale, dirt, and other contaminants using abrasive blasting and mechanical preparation methods.
- Operate abrasive blasting equipment to prepare metal, steel structures, machinery, vehicles, containers, and other surfaces for protective coatings.
- Inspect surfaces after blasting to ensure the required level of preparation and cleanliness is achieved.
- Select, mix, and apply paints, primers, protective coatings, and finishes according to specifications and manufacturer requirements.
- Apply coatings using spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other appropriate equipment.
- Perform sanding, grinding, masking, and surface preparation between coating applications.
- Check completed work for coating thickness, coverage, colour, finish, and defects, and carry out touch-ups or corrective work as required.
- Maintain and operate blasting, spray-painting, and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, and follow WHS procedures when working with abrasive materials, paints, and chemicals.
- Maintain clean and organised work areas and properly store tools, equipment, paints, and materials.
- Complete work in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, environmental controls, and workplace safety standards.
