Options for New Zealand Citizens and their families
New Zealand Citizens residing or visiting Australia may be granted a Special Category Visa (Subclass 444) upon entry if they meet the below criteria
• a New Zealand Citizen and do not hold another Australian Visa
• Present current New Zealand Passport
• Meet specific health and character requirements
SPECIAL CATEGORY (SUBCLASS 444)
The Special Category Visa (SCV) Subclass 444 is a temporary visa that allows New Zealand citizens to live, work and study in Australia.
As a temporary resident, SCV holders do not have the same rights and benefits as Australian Citizens or permanent residents. A separate visa application/s must be made to become a permanent resident or citizen.
This visa is valid from the time of visa grant (upon arrival) to the time of departure from Australia.
FAMILY & PARTNER VISAS (NEW ZEALAND)
New Zealand citizens with non-New Zealand family members have their own visa subclass. The New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa (Subclass 461) is for
• the partner
• children/step-children or partner’s children/step-children (Including dependent children)
of a New Zealand Citizen (Subclass 444 visa holder)

New Zealand Citizens have a number of Permanent Visa options.
The Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) New Zealand Stream is specifically for SCV Subclass 444 Visa holders
